The Bulldogs built a four-run lead in the fifth inning and then held off Hudsonville’s charge for a 4-3 victory on Monday. Hudsonville managed three runs in the failed comeback.
Byron Center opened up scoring in the first inning, when AJ Gills singled scoring Bri Nelson and the Bulldogs scored again in the third when Kenzie Domeier knocked in Gills to go up 2-0. The fourth inning brought Gills scoring Nelson again and then Kendahl Dyer doubled to knock in Cierra Laska.
Elayna Busing took the win. She surrendered three runs on four hits over five innings, striking out three. Kristina Baar threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen. Baar recorded the last six outs to earn the save.
Dyer and Laska each racked up multiple hits for the Bulldogs.
